Matthias took the name Flying Fortress from a World War II bomber. If the phrase, “Liberty and Resistance” are important to him, he has became famous for his “Teddy Trooper”, now found on every imaginable support.
A skateboarder since the end of the Eighties, Matthias discovered the works of Jim Philips and Andy Howell and New York’s graffiti scene during its golden era: “From that time, it was my dream to one day see my illustrations decorate a board...which has since come true :)”. Yup, Flying Fortress, like numerous artists committed to the urban scene of the Board Culture, encounter and link the universes of boarding and graffiti via their work. His compositions have been used by several skateboard brands like Hessenmob, Rockawaybear and Grave skateboards, and he has collaborated with Element and DVS on other artistic projects; Art Toys most recently invited him to distribute the object of his fetish as an adult toy.

Matthias a pris le nom Flying Fortress à partir de celui d’un bombardier de la seconde guerre mondiale. Si la sentence « Liberté et Résistance » est importante pour lui, il s’est fait connaître en proposant son Teddy tropper (traduisez ourson soldat) sur tous les supports possibles. Skater depuis la fin des années 80, il découvre en plein âge d’or du skate, les travaux de Jim Philips et d’Andy Howell, ainsi que la scène graffiti new-yorkaise : « Depuis cette époque, ça a été un rêve de voir un jour l’un de mes dessins édité sur un skate... ce qui a été le cas depuis :». En effet, Flying Fortress, comme nombre d’artistes engagés dans la scène urbaine de la Board Culture, a rencontré et lié par son travail les univers du skate et du graffiti. Ses compositions ont donc été utilisées par plusieurs marques de skate comme Hessenmob, Rockawaybear ou Grave skateboards ; il a collaboré avec Element ou DVS pour des projets artistiques et a récemment été invité à éditer son personnage fétiche comme jouet pour adulte par Art Toys.
